Antibodies are part of your monoclonal antibody service immune system, and they’re used as therapies in the treatment of certain diseases. They’re more targeted than some other types of treatments and have been shown to be more successful in treating conditions, including some cancers. Monoclonal antibodies can be given in a liquid solution that’s injected directly into your vein (an intravenous (IV) injection, also called an IV infusion). They can be delivered at home or in an infusion center, depending on the type of therapy you’re receiving and your overall health.

Immunotherapy — Traditional methods of developing mAbs involve immunizing animals with an antigen to stimulate B cell production and fusing the antibody-producing cells with myeloma or other tumor cells to create hybridomas that can proliferate indefinitely. These cells are then screened by sandwich ELISA for high-affinity antibodies. Select clones are expanded to produce larger quantities of antibodies for further screening and long-term storage.

Recombinant systems reduce costs by directly isolating IgG genes without hybridoma generation, reducing the time needed for antibody development. In addition to accelerating the antibody development process, these systems also enable precise genetic modifications for improved efficacy and reduced immunogenicity. They can be used to produce mAbs in mammalian systems for mammalian-based protein production, or in yeast or insect cells for applications that require simpler glycosylation and post-translational modification.
